Underwater Photos
Underwater Adventures at Isla del Caño

Maria is a special person just like most of the people who have found their way to Pirate Cove over the years, and she is also a special photographer. When we saw some of the photos she took while visiting us we couldn't resist asking if she would let us use some of them. What follows is an abreviated version of her comments and a few photos. We hope you like them as much as we do.

"As a wildlife photographer, I travel the world following my favourite subjects which are whales, dolphins and sharks and never have I encountered in one location such a vast richness and diversity of marine life, as I found in Drake Bay.  Up to 26 different types of whales and dolphins can be seen each year.

At Isla del Cano, the number of fish species is equally astounding. I saw big schools of barracuda and big eye jacks, enormous groupers, snappers, triggerfish, lots of resident white tip reef sharks and even the curious garden eels lying on the sandy bottom, to name but a few. One day a school of several hundred cownose rays passed over us, obscuring the light!

The hospitality at Pirate Cove is second to none with a friendliness that is hard to beat. The comfy cabins are set in a wonderful tranquil river setting, a true rarity where you can hear the calm sounds of the river and the ocean waves at night. I can't wait to go back. Thanks - you really did make the dream come true!"
